Brush hardness doesn't change for mask within Live Stack Group

Recommended Posts

I've created a Live Stack Group of two images, and I want to selectively mask one image. I've added a mask, selected only the mask, and either the Brush or Erase tool. Hardness is set to 0, but the brush retains 100% hardness. See circled in the image. What am I doing wrong here? Selectively brushing a mask should be pretty straightforward and I've done it countless times in Photoshop in years gone by.

Hi @DavidAu :)

Thanks for your report, I can confirm this behaviour is By Design - as Stacks only support hard alpha (ie. on or off) and therefore hardness and opacity settings are not honoured here.

If you require addressable Alpha, I recommend making a duplicate of the Stack layer and rasterising this, where you can then use your brush with a low hardness setting.

I hope this helps!

Hi @Dan C, thanks so much for the prompt reply, and for confirming that it's by design and not me doing something fundamentally wrong :) Also thanks for the recommendation, which was just what I was after. Much appreciated.
