Text doesn't update

Since the Big Sur update, I'm experiencing this as well:

Since the introduction of Big Sur Iv'e noticed a real sluggishness to the software.
Layers from time to time will not select when clicked and a layer above or below needs to be selected first, then the layer required will become selectable.

Text font also doesn't change while moving my mouse over the various fonts in the dropdown.

I've been using Affinity photo for years and this is the first time I'm experiencing anything like this. If it helps: I purchased the application through the App store, and I'm on a 2016 MacBook pro 2.7ghz and 16gb ram.
