LordStuff Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Hi there! Is there some functionality to mirror something by some axis? For example I have a layer with a Pen path that creates a line for an image frame. I want that line to be horizontally mirrored so I have both halves of the path be the exact same form? The alternative would be duplicating the layer, rasterizing it, then mirroring it. But as layer mirroring only works within it's own bounds, I'd need to move it to the other side by hand. To align it in the centre I'd then need to put them both in a group. All that is very tedious if I want to adapt the pen path afterwards. Thanks and cheers! Quote
firstdefence Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Affinity Photo has the mirror function. This example uses the brush tool. LordStuff Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 Thank you for answering! I found info on the brush tool, but is there something similar to use with lines resulting from the pen tool? Quote
v_kyr Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 There is also a pixel based "Mirror filter" ... screencast.mp4 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
firstdefence Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Unfortunately there is no mirror option for vectors, In Affinity Designer It’s possible to use symbols to create mirroring effects but you still have to flip and rotate. LordStuff Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 That is good to know, I don't quite see what parameters I need to use to mirror it horizontally without affecting it vertically, but I guess it would work somehow. Still, the filter sadly needs the layer to be rasterized as well. Being able to have the pen path stay intact while mirroring, having a preview of the end result, that would be massively powerful. Yes, I have seen that in a video and instantly commented. Hm, kinda sad that something like this is not possible.. Quote
firstdefence Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 I know Affinity Designer and Photo have some glaring omissions but I’m sure they will get added at some point. walt.farrell Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 You can take a path (curve) drawn with the Pen Tool, switch to the Move Tool, select the curve, duplicate it (Ctrl or Cmd J), and then Arrange > Flip Horizontal (or Vertical). Then all you need to do is to side the copy to the right/left or up/down . Or you can even use the Alignment Toolbar button () and Distribute Horizontally (or Vertically) to slide them automatically.
