Just purchased Eleni Debo Illustration Brush Pack. Running AP 1.8.5.703 on Win10 (fully up to date). Downloaded brush pack as per your instructions (both versions). I always get the message "Error importing brushes". The pack has been downloaded several times and different file folders have been tried. I've tried clicking on the file, which opens AP ok. I've also opened AP first. Either way, Brushes - Importing Brushes, returns this error.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

I just downloaded that brush pack, and it imports properly into Affinity Photo (1.8.5, or the 1.9 beta).

Possibly it didn't download properly?

File Explorer should show the size of the .afbrush file as 96,572 KB.

If you can check the SHA-1 or MD5 checksums, they should be:

  • SHA-1:  e8ace22531316dfda76e4623b04753cee615ddc8
  • MD5:  c64ae82fcf50c5a992934b77c84ef9bc

The file size is as you say, 96,572.

I checked the MD5 for this while it was still in the Affinity folder (as I'd originally moved it from downloads). It was not what you quoted.

I deleted file and downloaded it again, this time staying in downloads folder.

Checked the MD5 and again it was different to yours and my previous one.

It still returns an error.

I suggest trying again, possibly with a different browser. (What browser are you using?)

Hi Walt.

Normally I use Google Chrome.

As you asked, I tried another download, using Microsoft Edge this time.

Still get the error, both by double clicking the filename and looking for it in AP.

As a test, I located a previous brush pack for AP (Inksy Street Art 2) which was still amongst the files. It opened and loaded a second copy without any problems.

Obviously no point in checking the MD5 data again.

Could the newer security filters cause a problem?

Ask the moderators for a private Drobox link.

You can then upload the Brushes you downloaded to that link and they can check if they work or are somehow corrupted on your PC

Chrome and Edge are basically the same browser. I would suggest Firefox.

Hi Walt.

Just tried this with Firefox. It downloaded into Firefox's Library, so trying from a different folder.

File size is the same as the others.

Opened the file and it opened Publisher this time. Still got the same error.

So tried with Photo again, still get the error.

Think I'll try the refund policy until I know it's fixed, whatever 'it' may be.  And that would be a shame, as I've been using Serif without problems since the late 80's and PagePlus 2 or something and everything in between. That's why I'm a 'Newbie' to the Forum - I haven't needed to get a problem sorted

Hi @W15MC,

I've just tested this brush pack and its downloading and importing fine.  The checksum values are the ones stated by @walt.farrell so if you are getting different values, then that likely explains why it's failing to import, as it won't be the complete file.

As i've been able to verify your purchase on our database, i've sent you a Dropbox link to the brush, if you can try downloading that and see if you can import that file from your Downloads folder.

Following Walt's suggestion and the link from stokerg, I'm now up and running via the Dropbox route.

Not by a download from the site which gave the same problem, but by sending the file to my Dropbox first and opening it from there.

Whatever modifies the the file to affect the MD5 checksum remains a mystery.

Many thanks to you both.

You're welcome. But that's weird.

If you mean that you were finally successful by opening it from the Dropbox folder on your computer, rather than downloading via a browser, then you have a browser issue, or a plugin issue, I think.

(But if that's what you did, it's a brilliant workaround :) )

I am having the same issue with Gil Shir swatches and brushes. any advices is helpful.

Please confirm the exact name of the items you're having trouble with, and the location where you got them.

I don't see anything of that name at the Affinity Store nor here in the forums.

It might help if you would answer the question I asked you a few days ago, @Patrices.

Gal Shir’s palettes and brushes are for use in Procreate and Photoshop. The brushes might work in the Affinity apps if they’re available in *.abr format, but you can only import native Affinity palettes.
