Attempted to open an IDML file. None of the text on paths was imported.

The paths show (as curves) but no text appears on them.

Also having created new paths I noticed that after adding text to a path it doesn't seem to be possible to then alter the properties of the stroke for the path. Is this by design?

Once you add text to a path it becomes the text frame for the path text, accordingly by design the path's properties get set in the Text Frame Panel while the previous options now set the text properties.

Thanks - it still took me a fair while to track down the text frame properties though! Stroke properties were already visible by default so seemed logical to expect it to be with that rather than having to dig into the menus, but I guess at least now I know.

Note that both the Stroke Panel + the Colour Panels switch their object relation when you apply text to a path. That makes it easier to apply fill color and stroke to the text. The former path object gets converted to a text frame and you get doubled stroke + fill options. Therefore an additional panel gets necessary which you don't need for the path before applying text to it.

I've reverted to InDesign for now so not using at the mo however all I know is that having added some text to a path it wasn't in any way obvious as to how to alter the stroke. I attempted to use the colour palette, reduced every setting in the stroke properties to zero, went through everything on the right hand property boxes and everything in the top contextual menu and nothing worked.

When I eventually tracked it down via the text frame properties by going into the menu it worked (as somebody else explained previously) and obviously now I'll know, but it wasn't immediately intuitive.

Just to add to this that I've since discovered that it apparently isn't possible to link text on multiple paths with Publisher.

The text on paths in my IDML file was linked across multiple paths so I'm guessing this still won't be working even with the Beta.

This seems to be caused by APubs concept (limitation 'by design') that a text on paths has to be done with the Artistic Text Tool which has no (automatic) line breaks and therefore no text overflow. The text overflow marker at a text frame created with the Text Frame Tool doesn't exist at an Artistic Text Frame, vice versa an Artistic text frame has rather a virtually unlimited size and text on a path can exceed the path.

Also you can't use a path converted to a text frame for path text, instead any text will be placed inside the path shape, not on it.

ok - I guess that's going to take a complete rethink about my future workflow.

Maybe a future feature could be to differentiate between flowing text by using the regular text tool opposed to the present options with the artistic tool (I'll add this to a post I already put up for feature requests).
