Gradient angle following the line?

I am trying to do something that is very easy with AI. I need to draw electric wires (see attachment). With AD I am not able to make the gradient to follow the line but only to consider the line as shape (see attachment).

Am I not capable or there is a limit in AD?

1/ You can create a brush.
or
2/ Use the "Appearance" panel to add a second, finer stroke of the desired color to which you apply a Gaussian blur.

As an alternative to the advice above you can set a small stroke size, add an Outline Effect to the curve, and set it to a Fill Style of Contour, see attached image.
