Hello all! I'm brand new to Affinity and to vector drawing in general.  I recently acquired a Shaper Origin which is a handheld CNC for woodworking.  It. requires .svg files in order to recognize them.  I have a shape that I can load into Affinity, export it as an svg file but the machine only recognizes the outline.  I need to convert the shape where not only the outline is ready to cut but also to be able to pocket cut the field inside the outline so a positive of the shape can be dropped into the negative, i.e. an inlay.  How do I tell the software to recognize the pocket I need to cut?  Thanks in advance.  I have attached the file I want to pocket cut.

Welcome to the forum @howardh

The SVG doesn’t display any “pockets” ? it’s literally just an outline, a single curve.

Thanks for that clarification.  Like I mentioned, I really don't have any experience using this type of software.  I was told by a Shaper person that the design must be "closed" before their engine can recognize it in order to cut a pocket.  How do I close this shape?

Your design was not closed. The upper right had coincident nodes, start and end were overlapped but not joined.

Texas_Longhorns_logo bruce.svg I selected them and used the Context toolbar 'Close Curve' button.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thought I’d post this to explain what a pocket is and how it’s done: https://support.shapertools.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360005473253-Pocketing-Procedure So a pocket is the shape cut out to a depth, I assume the same shape is cut out of a material to insert into the pocket.

Fascinating machine, would love to have a go with one.

Me and power tools can turn premium hardwood into expensive kindling. Fast!

But yes that is fascinating in that it is a hand held CNC machine.

Yes, it's the "negative" so to speak, of an inlay.  It's an absolutely fabulous machine.  CNC for those of us who don't have the shop space for a traditional deck version.

Would love to see the result when it’s done 😊

here's a example...  It's extremely accurate. I'll get the logo done this weekend.

here s what it's going to look like in the finished board...I can fill in any slight gaps with a little maple wood filler.  This is a cool tool!!

That’s so cool, I’m seriously considering buying one as I may have a market for it in my customer base. I was on the website looking at the videos all last night.
