Brush Stroke Panel value discrepencies

Recommended Posts

I think this is a bug (present in 1.8.6 as well).

If you select a brush from the brush list, draw a curve, choose the node tool and click on the brush stroke properties to edit the brush stroke, the brush stroke properties dialog has the wrong values in it.

Starting with a brush set to 128px, 80% size variance, 0% opacity variance then changing the draw width to 10px as per video.

Notice in brush properties dialog, the brush width is 128px, not 10 (so doesn't reflect the drawn curve) and the size variance is 0% (so doesn't match the default for the brush).

So editing a setting suddenly applies the other (wrong) values to the brush stroke.

I think this dialog should be picking up the curve being edited, not the default vales because otherwise it is hard to edit a line you have already drawn without corrupting it.

I don't think I see a bug here, @Magicbean.

However, I'm unsure as I can't tell what you did late in the recording. Your mouse cursor stops moving, and then suddenly the stroke changes. I suspect you've clicked on the Brushes panel again, and if so that's exactly the result I'd expect.

Note that you do not have a "brush properties dialog" open at any time during the recording. You have the Brushes panel, and the Brush Tool Context Toolbar, and eventually the Node Tool Context Toolbar. To get to the Brush Properties dialog for the stroke you just created, you would click on the Stroke picture in the Context Toolbar:

And then on Properties... to get to the dialog I think you want:

Thanks. That's the same problem you reported in your other topic, I think.

@walt.farrell Yes, you're correct - I posted it in the main questions forum because I didn't know if I was just misunderstanding things, but I don't think it was seen. I tried it in the 1.9 Beta and decided it was actually a bug so posted it as Beta bug. Then it was moved by admin into this bug report part of the of forum. so it ended up duplicated although it wasn't my intention to do that. At least I learned how to do a video record including the pop-ups on the way.

For future reference, if you do post about the same issue multiple times, it is helpful to link the posts together. There's a Share icon in the header of each post, and you can use that to get the URL of a post so you can insert it into another post. :)
