I purchased Affinity Publisher (1.8.5.703) from Affiny's homesite two weeks ago. I have Win10. This is the first time I am using this software. I started to make a book but the software froze all the time. I have not found a reason for this. All went well till page 17 or so. Then I had an overflow problem with text, but I solved it by cleaning a few pages and pasted the text again and all looked fine. But soon this problem came back. I have turned off my computer many times, but no effect. I am not using special fonts (I am using Book Antiqua, Bernard MT Condensed, Arial).

On Master Pages I only have page numbers. Once I pasted text to an empty page (I forgot to create the Text Frame box first) and immediately the Publisher crashed and was unstable for a long time.

This is frustrating. There is no logic when the Publisher freezes, as it happens all the time, especially if I paste longer text to the text frame, or if I edit the text frame when text inside.

I have continued despite the problems, and the book is almost ready. But suddenly nothing works and I think the Publisher broke the .afpub file today and I can't open the book layout at all. It offered a Recovery version, but this version contained many empty pages. Next time I clicked 'no' to Recovery, after that the Publisher tried to load the book, but nothing happened. I have tried this many times.

Yesterday I made a backup of the .afpub -file and it opens correctly, but I hope that I can return to the latest book layout I finished today. (I press "control + s" after each text block or image I paste/edit, but I don't know from where to find them, if the Publisher saves these versions.)

Best,
Petri

Hi @Petrik,

Can you upload the problem file here and I'll take a look.

Can you also download the latest beta which is here and let me know if you get any more crashes.

If so, can you let me know when those crashes happened and then navigate to %appdata%\Affinity\Publisher\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports and upload the contents to the above link.

Thanks

Why does Affinity Publisher draw a straight line above the first text line of the pages? I exported the book layout and this problem is on almost every page where the sentence starts at the beginning of the page.

Looks like a paragraph decoration, which can be set from the Decorations section at the bottom of the Paragraph studio panel, or via a Paragraph Text Style.

The 'Decorations' function seems to be automated. When I erase one line from the beginning of a paragraph, the line moves to the beginning of the next paragraph. And when I erase this new line, the line moves to the next paragraph and this continues until the end of the chapter. How do I turn off this feature completely?

Sounds like it may be coming from the Text Style associated with your text, then, rather than the setting in the Paragraph panel.

So, see what Paragraph Text Style you have assigned, edit that Text Style, and unset the Decoration there:

The latest beta can be found here.

I've had this file open and made changes/saved and it seems to be fine from my end.

If it crashes in the beta can you let us know when it happened and navigate to %appdata%\Affinity\Publisher\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports and upload the latest crash dump.

Thanks
