Master pages: Single pages vs spreads

I've created a non facing pages Affinity Publisher file with a grid of linked text boxes on the master page so that I can change how the text flows on individual pages, which works perfectly.

When I try to do the same with a facing pages file, the linked text boxes from the master page lose the links to the next text box on the document page?

I've enclosed a test file that illustrates the problem.

I'm new to Affinity publisher and haven't found anything on the forum or tutorials that covers this so help would be really appreciated!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

You need to create the text frames on the right-side of the Master page, too, and link from the lower-right frame on the left side to the upper-left frame on the right side.

It should end up looking like this:

Thanks for the welcome and for looking at this.

OK I've just amended my test file and it works as you suggest, great. But...

I don't want the linked boxes to continue onto other pages, in this case.

The enclosed illustrates what I'm trying to achieve.

This would be for a calendar with an image on the top page and the dates listed on the bottom page.

The idea being that once finished it should be easy to adjust for future years.

I've tried to do this using tables but find that once the dates are entered the then cant be tabbed along to adjust for future years?

I'm confused.

In your first post in the topic you wanted text to flow to the next page. Now you're saying you don't want it to flow to the next page.

Also, it's not clear to me whether you should have horizontal facing pages (as your sample file has) or vertical facing pages (as you show just above).

Sorry for the confusion, I'm not explaining what I'm trying to achieve very well.

In, the first post I said that I wanted to "change how the text flows on individual pages", not between pages, so sorry if that wasn't clear. Again, this works perfectly between a file set-up with non facing pages.

The original file enclosed was just a test file to illustrate the problem I was having which you explained perfectly so thank you.

The vertical facing pages example is what I'm working with and I agree should have shared that in the first place to avoid confusion. I was tying to keep things simple and achieved the opposite, sorry.

As I see it I'm going to have to copy and paste the dates pages directly onto the relevant pages rather than using master pages. I was just trying to avoid having to make changes to proportions etc on each individual page in the future by using master pages as works with non linked text boxes or image boxes.

Thank you for looking at this for me.

Thanks for the clarifications. I was confused by your initial comment and misinterpreted as "between pages".

What you showed should work just fine for the text on a single page, even with a facing-page document. So I guess I don't understand your initial problem.

I also don't understand the part I just quoted. You could have a vertical facing-page, with the top page having a Picture Frame for the image, and a Text Frame for the Month. The bottom page would have the Text Frame for the month, and the grid of Text Frames for the days. You could simply fill in the data.

And if you link the frames for the days together, then you should be able to

  1. Format the dates for a month into a single text string with tabs between the dates; then
  2. Paste the string into the frame where the month starts; then
  3. Use Find and Replace to change tabs into Frame Breaks.

After step 3 all the dates will flow into their proper frames for the month. (In 1.9, you should be able to simplify this by generating the month data  using CSV files.)
