I'm trying to remove the strokes from the outside borders but can't erase them and I used to have them not go outside the border, but for some reason I'm having trouble getting rid of them now.

Which app are you using?

You could create a transparent (no fill, no stroke) rectangle the same size as the document and place all other layers in it, this will clip anything that is outside of the rectangles bounds.

If you are using Affinity Designer, Press the backslash key   \

  • it is Affinity Designer. Also, when I unclick to see my work it takes off all of it so if I move everything over won't it just be the same issue?

Using the backslash key \ hides anything that is outside of the document borders. This is a toggle shortcut key command in Affinity Designer, press it to hide, press it again to reveal.

I'm trying to do so yet it doesn't work. The hair turns all black like scribbles and the background hair is still the same as before.

The black hair looks like a colour overlay problem, can’t think of another reason for that.

I’ve just done a very quick drawing and did a stroke, I flipped the colour from a stroke to a fill and the stroke turned black even though there was no colour applied to the stroke, the only way to get rid of the black stroke was to either colour it to the same as the fill or set it to 0 width.

Bug or by design?

It does fix it, though I now need to recolor and draw all the hair. It only leaves the background base color.

Usually as firstdefence said clipping, or in your case masking down a border sized rect should do what you want.
