Please advise. I had created several hundred assets on Affinity Photo 1.8.5.703 and yesterday, whilst adding a new asset, the program froze. I was given the option of waiting or closing the program and after waiting for a while, I closed it.

On reopening it, all assets had completely disappeared. Fortunately I had exported some categories a few weeks ago and was able to reimport these although the last few weeks of 100 or so assets had not been saved. The file 'assets. protocol' now shows 817,675 KB.

Is there a limit on the number of assets or the size of this file? Why did I lose all of the assets? Please advise how to avoid this problem in future.

Hi John35, welcome to the forums.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have been trying to add a rather large asset and as Windows became non-responsive and the app quit, the assets file became corrupt.

Luckily you had backed them up and as far as I know, this is the only thing you could keep doing. I don't know if Windows and the app would have recovered at some point but it never seems so...

Hi Chris

Thanks for your answer.

However, is there a limit on the size of the 'assets.propcol' file ?

Rather than export each individual assets category, I think that the easiest way to backup the assets is to copy the 'assets.propcol' file to a backup medium. This can then be copied, for example, into Affinity Publisher to save time in importing each category to another application.
