Affinity Trial copy doesn't match Serif tutorial

I am new to post processing. I have downloaded the trial version. My first attempt at using a tutorial, the one at Affinity Photo - Selection Brush Tool | Affinity Photo for desktop tutorials (serif.com), does not match the screen on the trial version and the trial version is not working the same way as the tutorial. I've tried many times to carefully follow the instructions. There must be something I'm missing which is presumed anyone should know without being told. The tutorial shows the histogram panel on the right side with Curves Adjustment and Background pixels, whereas on the trial version is shown Levels adjustment, Lens filter adjustment, and Background pixels. When left clicking and dragging the selection brush with soft edges selected, there are no soft edges selected, only edges showing where I have dragged the circle, as shown on the screenshot.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

The arrangement of the studio panels is entirely up to you. Perhaps the user who created the tutorial wasn't using the default layout, but had arranged the panels to their own preferences.

I'm not sure about your other question.

Enable "Snap to edges" in the context toolbar.
