Develop Persona 16bit or 32bitHDR

Recommended Posts

When opening a RAW file that is properly developed in the camera should the RAW Output Format in the Develop Assistant be set to RGB(16bit) or RGB(32bit HDR)? Seems to me that the only time I should set the Develop Assistant to RGB(32bit HDR) is when I have a true HDR image to develop but when the RAW file from the camera is 16bit and properly developed I should set the RAW Output Format to RGB(16bit).  Is the the correct thinking?

That is what I do, 16 bits is actually overkill in my mind, printers use 8 bits so for editing 16 bits will give you plenty of subtle variations.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thanks Old Bruce for your reply.  I also set the Output Profile to Adobe RGB 1998 which I understand to be the correct output profile for printing out photos from my personal printer.  I am curious as to what Output Profiles others use in Affinity Photo and why.
