Hi @DWright,

I solved it. I found that pressing the "B" key to launch the brush to modify the layer, if you press it more than once it cycles through 4 personas. Each persona alters the contextual tool bar for the brush, one of them giving you a square brush. One of the personas works fine. Thank you for replying and I'm sorry to waste your time. Stay well and stay safe in these troubled times.

You can set a Preference that controls how the tool cycling works, so that it will only cycle between tools if you hold the Shift key, too:

Also, a forum usage hint: to "tag" another user, type the @-sign and then start typing the name, and you'll get a popup list of users matching what you've typed. Select a name from the list. You'll see the name inserted with a special highlighting indicating that it's a tag, and the user will be notified that you've mentioned them.

Note the difference between simply typing @Dwright as you did above and this one: @DWright.
