Exporting jpeg from designer without background

I want to export a drawing without getting the surrounding white space (probably the bounding box). See below - I only want the colored "circle" and not the white space surrounding it. How do I do that with Designer? Any shape other than a rectangle gets this added background, whether or not I choose to export without background.

The JPG format doesn't support transparency, thus can't export without a background color! - Use another bitmap format for these colored circle with background transparency purposes, namely PNG or GIF etc.
