Maestrorobertus Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 How to use a image/photo/vector shape as source for a pattern layer ? affinityfan 1 Quote
fde101 Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 Currently no way to do that with a vector shape without first rasterizing it - that was brought up in some of the comments on one of the announcement threads and we are hoping for that to change. For image/photo: Select the part of the image or pixel layer that you want to make into a pattern and copy it to the clipboard. Create a pattern layer of the desired size. Paste the data from the clipboard and use the move tool to position it over the pattern layer. Select both the pattern layer and the pasted image layer and choose Layer -> Merge Selected Quote
Maestrorobertus Posted November 22, 2020 Author Posted November 22, 2020 Thanks, not the easiest workflow. I think a few things should be made possible in the future: 1. Turn of the grey border, so you can see how seamless the pattern is during painting. (instead of borders the user can easily add helping lines) 2. Paint over the borders, the paint tools should work when painting over the border line, so the overlaying brush paints on the mirrored size. Otherwise its quite impossible to generate seamless patterns. 3. Crop to pattern size. Would be useful to save the pattern if there would be an easy option to automatically crop the image to the pattern size. So this is manual quite tricky. Quote
