LIONELLO Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 An important editorial file (catalogue with 200+ pages, with hundreds of images) has been corrupted during a standard saving operation. Message (translation): IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE FILE This kind of file is not supported MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 on iMac 27” AffinityPublisher 1.8.6 (the document was created with a previous version, however it worked ok on the 1.8.6 and I've saved it many other times). I have an older backup copy however I’ve lost one week of updates and work. Is there anybody from Affinity staff who please could examine the file and restore it? Quote
Staff Gabe Posted December 3, 2020 Staff Posted December 3, 2020 Hi @LIONELLO, Welcome to the forums and sorry for the delayed reply. Where was that file stored/saved? Local drive / Cloud drive? Can you use this link to upload the file? https://www.dropbox.com/request/xYC0AQGbjf1yetBcq5zA Quote
LIONELLO Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 The problem is that I was saving on NAS GNAP with its firmware via afp. Something went wrong during the saving process. Now I work/save on local and it seems to be ok. Quote
Rob Luxford Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 May I suggest versioning back up on the drive being worked on to be a general recommendation? I experienced this issue yesterday. 605 MB file saved onto Synology NAS Drive. Worked fine all day. Closed the file. Went to open it again and met with error. Moved file to local drive, unmounted servers. Same error. +++++++++++++++ Failed to open File /Users/rob/Desktop/Recovery/17 11 pm/N1HAST 5850 Vivid Book of Signs A3 03.afpub The file type is not supported. +++++++++++++++ Macbook Pro, Mac OS Big Sur. Affinity Version 1.8.6 Oddly at around the same time of day Affinity Designer was throwing similar errors from a random selection of small (sub 200kb) files. Affinity Designer 1.8.6 +++++++++++++++ Failed to load document: N1HAST 5852 Brand Design Concept A 02 The document appears to be corrupted. The document must now be closed. +++++++++++++++ Fortunately I have versioning turned on with the NAS drive. Interestingly I had to go back a few versions to find one that would open. 5:58 pm 605mb publisher file corrupt. 5:11 pm 572mb publisher file corrupt. 5:08 pm 539mb publisher file fine. t is likely the file was open constantly through those three saving times. So the corruption didn't crash the file till re-opening. This file is the basis for all the centralised projects I do. So it being reliable is rather important. No harm done yet but it could rupture on a project worth a lot more than just the artwork. Happy to supply the files if you think it would help. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted February 4, 2021 Staff Posted February 4, 2021 Hi @Rob Luxford, If you could upload some broken sample files here, I can pass them on to our developers. https://www.dropbox.com/request/Tj6KK8XlGQzU8AM4lqCI Quote
Rob Luxford Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Most appreciated. It is fantastic that you guys actually monitor the forums. Thank you thank you thank you. Uploading now. Some corrupted designer files with the still ok source file they were derived from (identified as "OK" in the file name). Well that's weird. Just testing the Publisher document to send. Sometimes opens sometimes not. From the NAS Server. Video attached. Then tried to save as onto NAS: "Failed to save document: /Volumes/Studio/Oven/No 1 Hastings/N1HAST 5850 Site Review & Recording/N1HAST 5850 Vivid Book of Signs A3 04 Damaged.afpub Save failed because the file could not be written to." Tried saving to local drive. Same error. Many thanks. Rob Corrupt_file_behaviour.mp4 Quote
