AALEXX
Staff Gabe Posted November 27, 2020 Staff Share Posted November 27, 2020 Hi @AALEXX, Sorry for the delayed reply. Can you use this link to upload your afpub file and the word file: https://www.dropbox.com/request/jOYYaRBjU5UAVLJfzYGd We would need to know your exact workflow too. What master page do you apply? Perhaps a screen recording of your workflow?
AALEXX
Hi Gabe, I have made the upload. During the working in Affinity with files about 400 pages thy working memory reached a process of 3.6 GB RAM, when I use master pages also when I do other formattings. This is the reason why my computer crashed, said my computer specialist, because I have just 8 GB RAM But I can´t understand why Affiniy use 3,6 GM RAM for working with a file of 900 KB. Greetings, Alex
Staff Gabe Posted November 30, 2020 Staff Share Posted November 30, 2020 There is quite a lot of text (over 300 pages worth of text) so during certain operations (like applying masters to many pages) it will go up. However, this should go down eventually. I can't replicate a crash on my end though. Can you consistently replicate the crash?
AALEXX
Yes, every time I do workings with that file it crashes after some formattings. The solution was to do some work and save the file every 5 minutes. It crashed often, but so I finished this job. I think it depends on the working memory. May be you have an apple mac or a higher working memory. I bought additional memory for my computer last week, so now I have 16 GB RAM. I hope it will work in the future. Thanks! Alex PS: since the last update of Affinity Publisher the text-lineal is no more available. Is this too your business or should I write a new post? Joachim_L
I do not think it depends on the working memory. My machine has 8 GB and works with documents having more than 300 pages. Maybe you could post a crash report in this thread? You'll find the crash reports here: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Publisher\1.0\CrashReports\reports What is your current installed version? Mine is the latest retail version 1.8.5.703 and it shows the text ruler. Staff Gabe Posted December 1, 2020 Staff Share Posted December 1, 2020 Can you try running the beta and see if that's any better? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/58-publisher-beta-on-windows/ Top of this thread.
AALEXX
do you mean to download the beta file ? 1.9.0.
Joachim_L
10 minutes ago, AALEXX said: 1.9.0.863 Yes. And installing it. And using it. But be warned, once saved in 1.9x, the document cannot be opened with 1.8.5x. The betas are just meant for testing purposes. AALEXX
ok, I´ve done your test. I worked with my file, 320 Sites, 900 kb only text. In this book I have 21 chapters which I have formatted with three different master pages. So I repeated my work and formatted them all new. The first 100 pages it works and then while procceding the used working memory grew, to 4 GB RAM, to 6 GB an then until 10.5 GB RAM. My machine did not crashed because a had made an upgrate to 16 GM RAM. But my task-manager shows me alarming red 95% usage - for there are other processes in my working memory, you know. result: the same problem - not better. And by the way, the text lineal is also not visible. Is it not visible, because all my textframes are formatted with master pages? But I need a text lineal there to format the tab stops be blessed! Staff Gabe Posted December 2, 2020 Staff Share Posted December 2, 2020 As far as I'm aware we will release the RAM if other apps will need it. What is your exact workflow to reach 10gb?
AALEXX
ok, I try to describe my workflow again: open the data file, 320 pages master A (text without heading) there are 23 chapters, starting left or right, so my choice was to formate this chapter pages with master C (left page) or master B (right page) starting at page 1 I went forward and use my master pages in the chapters. on the attached pictres you can see the progress and the RAM usage Regards, Alex
