polochon Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 How do I get a table of contents sorted in alphabetical order? Quote
GarryP Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Tables of Contents are not usually sorted by alphabetical order; maybe you need an Index instead. Quote
polochon Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Yes I had deduced that, but impossible to integrate the index in a page! Not good, the guy ... Quote

The software continued to disappoint and not deliver.
GarryP Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Can you explain a bit more about what you mean by “impossible to integrate the index in a page”? In other words, does the “Insert Index” button in the Index Panel not do what you want? Quote
polochon Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Before the data merge I inserted a mark. After the merge a full index will appear in the left studio, but when I click "Insert an index" I only get the name of my section and the total range of pages ... Quote
GarryP Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Sorry but I don’t know the indexing or data merge functionalities well enough to help further. Plus you are using the beta version of Publisher so this thread should probably have been created in the relevant beta section of the forums. Quote
polochon Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Data merge aside, how do you insert the index? Quote
GarryP Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 The only time I have used the indexing functionality is, after reading your question, when I did a little test to see if it was working for me. All I did to create the index was to create some index markers in an existing document, then create a Frame Text layer, and then use the Insert Index button while the Frame Text layer was selected and the focus was in that layer. It seemed to work for me which was why I asked if it was working for you. That’s my only use of the functionality so, if it’s not working, you probably need someone with much more experience in that area. (Basically I had hoped that it was an easy ‘fix’.) Quote
polochon Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 My concern is that the index appears well in the studio on the left, but when I insert in a text box I do not have the complete index, as shown in the image I posted previously Quote
GarryP Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Hopefully someone who knows the indexing functionality will see this but you might be better off starting a new thread with a title containing the word “indexing” so people know what it’s now about (rather than “table of contents”). Quote

If so, it's really a Data Merge question, and really needs to be in the proper Beta forum. polochon Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 I have 246 entries in the file, I cannot manually put a mark on each ... I asked the question in the Publusher beta forum Quote

I asked the question in the Publusher beta forum Thanks for asking in the proper forum. I understand you can't put a mark on each. But if you manually mark a few items, even in a different document, does it work properly when you generate the index? That would help determine whether the data merge is the issue. polochon Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 The ideal would still be the possibility of the classification of the table of contents in alphabetical order, as InDesign allows it. Elementary in publication Quote
