Cant crop image either using pen tool or shapes

Hi Guys

Need help on affinity photo. I tried cropping using pen selection. What i did was using the pen tool to select the irregular shape. Then dropping the image layer on the curve layer. But i wasnt able to it now.

Same goes for using a shape to do cropping by selecting the image layer over the shape layer. But it looks like it cant combine now to crop out the portion i wanted.

Hi DanNG,

Welcome to the forums

With your image layer selected draw your irregular path or shape using the Pen Tool and then from the top left of the screen hit Mask and not Selection.

This should do what you are looking for. To crop using a shape you just need to nest you image layer inside your shape.( see below link)

Just to add on, my Macbook pro on macos 10.15.4 doesnt have such issue, but my imac with os 10.15.7 is having such problems
