Jan Peek Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 I spend several hours a day using AD. In the past 24 hrs it’s become progressively more unstable, crashes every couple of minutes. Anything I should know about.? Next thing I’d try is a re install, which is tedious. Advice appreciated. Quote

Do a hard reset of iPad (also clears ram). Save regularly (real saves not just backing out to Home Screen). Callum 1 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Jan Peek Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Is ram usage referring to limits specific to AD or is it an OS limit of ram allocation to apps? I j have a new a new IPad with 1 TB ram, so no overall lack of ram, but I have no clear idea how iOS manages memory. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Also, could this be specific to my current project? Anybody with experience of the how and why of AD crashing? Last time I . Quote

I think iPad pros have 4GB of system ram (non pro versions 2GB). Given desktops often operate with 16GB or more, you can see that apps on the iPad have to manage their ram far more efficiently, particularly with complex apps such as Designer and Photo creating large files. For this reason iOS will release ram from apps not having screen focus to give to apps having current focus. This possibly accounts for why some edits get lost when people switch apps without saving first. Large files with many edits create a large history file which uses more of the system (limited) ram so hence clearing it every so often helps. You can save your file with or without history. My model is a pro with 512 GB storage but still only has 4 GB system ram. ☹️ Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
