Edina
Dear all, At present I'm working on the layout of a magazine in Affinity Publisher, and I need to put a number-character into superscript to refer to a footnote. Thus far there has been no problem with applying this typography to a character, but now I try over and over again and it doesn't work anymore. I've tried closing and reopening the document, but that doesn't help either. Any idea what can be the problem, and how I can fix it? Is it some kind of bug? Just recently I've installed an update of Publisher on my computer.
GarryP
How are you trying to make the character superscript? In my attached image, the red ‘ellipse’ shows what you should use to superscript one or more characters. The blue ‘circle’ shows what you need to use if you want the software to use a character which may be built into the font as a superscript character rather than the software simply manipulating the glyph - but you still need to set the superscript option in the red 'ellipse'. If the font supports that character as a superscript, you would use the option you have highlighted in blue, Garry. If the fond does not support that character as a superscript, you would use the option you have highlighted in red. I don't think there's a good case for ever using both options together. It could make sense to use both if you're superscripting a string of characters where the font supports some of them (but not all) as superscripts. But if you did that then you'd have some true superscript characters, and some "faked" superscript characters. That might not look as good as having all of them faked. Hello GarryP, Thus far I made a character superscript with the blue option, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. I've tried with the red option now and it works. But I still do not understand why I cannot use the blue option now.
Staff MEB Posted November 17, 2020 Staff Share Posted November 17, 2020 Hi Edina, Welcome to Affinity Forums The "blue" option (Typography section) uses the glyphs included in the font as designed by its creator, thus only works with fonts that contain these glyphs. The "red option" (in Positioning and Transform section) "fakes" the superscript reducing the font size and repositioning it and works with any font.
