It does not matter, if „Edit all Layers“ button on the Layers panel is switched on on off. You can always select objects on all layers, even if the layers are not selected before and „Edit all Layers“ is deactivated. The problem occurs on the newest Windows 10 Version 20h2 with Affinity Photo 1.8.5.703. Same problem occurs in Affinity Designer 1.8.5.703 and in Affinity Publisher 1.8.5.703.

Hi, @AlexZ, Welcome to the forums,

That button/function is really meant for Designer. I think they included it in Photo, because you can bring in documents from Designer, and those would have Artboards, which that function is geared towards.

Affinity Photo 2.6..; Affinity Designer 2.6..; Affinity Publisher 2.6..; Affinity2 Beta versions. Thank you very much for the explanation!

Perhaps it would make sense to change the mouse-over-label to "Edit all Affinity Designer ArtBoards" and to deactivate the button, if the document does not contain ArtBoard-Layers.

These changes could not be implemented only in Affinity Photo, but also in Designer and Publisher.

In my opionion the description "Edit all Layers" is not very appropriate for the button.

An artboard is just a special kind of container layer. As noted in the linked thread, ‘Edit All Layers’ applies to ordinary container layers as well as artboards.
