Double clicking on an .afpub file now causes it to open in Publisher Beta - after a warning about it being a non-beta file. Which I know. I did not change that setting. Publisher Beta did. Again - or still - my Affinity Publisher folder on iCloud is now disappeared again, and in its place a folder named Affinity Publisher Folder. In any case, "Affinity Publisher" is no more. So to recover my files I"ve copied "Affinity Publisher Folder" to "Affinity Publisher" Now, trying to save a file in 1.8 showed this. It now thinks there's a Affinity Publisher Beta folder.
