maintain colors when adding to vector shapes

I want to add two vector shapes together as one vector object. Each shape has a different fill color. Is there a way to maintain both fill colors when i combine the shapes into one.

By definition a solid fill can only have one colour. You would need to apply a gradient fill.

About the only thing you could do is group the two separate vector shapes.
