Affinity 1.8.6 export problem

In Affinity 1.8.6 Photo persona, When I use File...Export, the usual export screen appears and 

calculates the file size. I click 'export' and go to select my destination file location.

I can select the main file but no sub-files appear.

I chose to save  to the main file and clicked 'export' to save my jpeg.

Export failed with message...can't create file!

I cant go back to ver 1.8.4 so I'm stuck with a product I can't use!

Any suggestions, please?

Are you referring to folders and sub-folders within Finder?

What happens if you try exporting to your desktop? Does this allow the image to be saved correctly?

This is the message I get when I try to save to any folder on this external hard drive.

Image is saved correctly to the desktop and also to another external drive.

looks very much like a problem with the drive!

I should have checked more avenues before posting!

Can we close this thread now, please? I'll post again if I need to. 

For now, I need to investigate that external drive.
