Kaffeepause
For a presentation I would like to create the effect of torn paper for highlighting a detail of a piece of paper. For example, there is an aricle in a newspaper and I want to place a ripped piece of the newspaper in my presentation with the torn paper effect. Unfortunately I was unable to find an approach, how I can make this in Affinity Photo. That is why I am asking for help here. I would be very thankful if someone could explain steps how I can create the effect of torn paper with Affinity Photo. Thank you very much in advance. coranda
I'm not being flippant here but it seems to me that the easiest way to do this is to take a photograph of a torn piece of paper and composite it in.
Jakerlund
Something like this? 1. Draw a rectangle shape. 2. Add a mask and paint with rough brushes until you're satisfied with the edges. 3. Place a wrinkled paper image over and clip it to the rectangle shape and adjust the opacity to your liking. (see the layer setup below) I used a little outer shadow on the rectangle shape for effect. Trying to keep all such shapes as vector objects as long as possible gives you the option to scale it how ever you like without loosing any quality. Here's a link to the wrinkled paper i used in this example Cheers / Johny justwilliam, ronnyb and Chiefmonkey 2
Jakerlund
If you Rasterise the shape without the outer shadow effect you can use the Mesh Warp Tool to further bend/tweak your paper. And using the paper as selection and filling a layer below it with black and do a little more work with the Mesh Warp Tool gives you even a little more realistic result. Kaffeepause
Jakerlund, thank you very much for your solution, which is very usable for me. Unfortunately I was extremely busy during the last days so I hadn't enough time to reproduce your solution, so I suppose that I have some additional questions about this. Please allow another question: I need an effect like this one: http://us.123rf.com/450wm/skymax/skymax1208/skymax120800008/14930772-2013-calendar-januar-bunten-papierfetzen-vektor-illustration.jpg I have a document which I scanned with my flat bed scanner and want to focus my audience to a specific area of the document. So I would like to "rip off" this specific area with an effect looking like the linked picture. Do you know an approach how to produce such an effect? Thank you very much in advance. Mensch Mesch
Hey @Kaffeepause, I've just added a little example Affinity Photo file (Papierabriss.afphoto). Just play with the different layers and you will get the idea. The vector calendar is just the base for the rasterized pixel calendars. For the top and the bottom paper I've inverted the mask layer (⌘ i on a Mac). Keep on drawin' Norbert Papierabriss.afphoto Chiefmonkey and Kaffeepause 2 Quote Find me on YouTube | Mensch Mesch | MeWe | Twitter | Pinterest iMac27 5k 32 GB, MacBook Pro M1 | macOS 12.1 | iPad Pro2 | iOS 15.2 Affinity Designer 1.10.5 [macOS & iOS] | Affinity Photo 1.10.5 [macOS & iOS] | Affinity Publisher 1.10.
Kaffeepause
Hi @Mensch Mesch thank you very much for your kind work with this example. It is very helpful for me. I will use this approach for my next presentation, where I want to show some tear outs of documents.
