Welcome to Affinity Forums :
I'm not able to reproduce this here. What macOS version are you running? Are you aware that the subtracted circle isn't rendered on screen while you draw it - only the subtracted/final shape is shown, so if you are drawing the circle far from the first pixel selection you will not see it on screen until it intercepts the first selection.
