Diby
I am running Affinity Publisher 1.8.5.703 on Windows 10. When I attempt File > Place... and select an Excel .xlsx file to place a table on a page, Affinity closes. Is there a resolution? GarryP
I encountered the same problem (Publisher 1.8.5.703 on Windows 10 2004) when trying to place that file in Publisher; as soon as I stopped dragging the area for placement, Publisher crashed out without any message. I removed the ‘merging’ from the two large cells on the left and could then place the file in a document but all of the numerical cell values are missing (along with some formatting which Publisher can’t do), see attached image. I don’t use this functionality much at all so someone else should be able to help you better; I just thought I’d show that it wasn’t just you that was having the problem. h_d
FWIW I get the same crash on MacOS. Unmerging the cells as suggested by @GarryP, placing and re-merging in Publisher worked for me too. Staff stokerg Posted November 8, 2020 Staff Share Posted November 8, 2020 Hi @Diby, I've logged the file with the Developers, as a crash is always an unwanted result. I have seen it before where certain formatting options on the cells have caused Affinity to fail, so it could be related to that. @GarryP or @h_d any chance you could attach the file you could place? I removed the merge from the two cells but my Macbook is still crashing when i place the file
h_d
Hi @stokerg I've attached the .xlsx file I could place and the .afpub document I placed it into, but I should point out that I used Apple Numbers to do the unmerging and then exported as .xlsx, as I don't have Excel itself. I don't think it should make any difference. Cells A2 and B2 (second row, first two cells) need to be unmerged as well as all the cells in the first row. Staff stokerg Posted November 8, 2020 Staff Share Posted November 8, 2020 Hi @h_d, Thanks for the files I've updated the log with a copy of the file that places I suspect it will be related to formatting on the table that we don't support in Publisher, but i could be wrong. h_d
Diby
I found a workaround using these excel commands: "copy" and "paste value". I copied the excel tab, and pasted its values in the tab of another file. I then saved the file under a different name. Thank you.
Staff stokerg Posted November 13, 2020 Staff Share Posted November 13, 2020 Hi @Diby, Just give you an update on this issue, the problem with the original file has been fixed by Dev and should make into a beta build shortly and then into the final update that's released
