oxyalis
Hello, I'm trying the Publisher demo to see if it could replace some work I do in Photoshop. There's a feature I need a lot in my designs, it's the Pattern overlay. Let's say I'm picking a rectangle, I go to Layer style > Pattern overlay and pick a pattern (you can import .pat files) and then this pattern is applied repeatedly to the shape. I can play with transparency, size, etc. I haven't found anything to do the same in Affinity Publisher. The Fill tool doesn't do the same.. Any idea for me, as this is really a blocker 😞 Will this feature come? Otherwise, I love the software.. great job guys. Thanks.
GarryP
Welcome to the forums @oxyalis There is no Pattern Overlay in any of the Affinity applications; the Effects are the same in all of them. However, in Publisher (and Designer and Photo) you can use a Bitmap Pattern Fill clipped to your layer, as can be seen in my attached video. You can also set the Opacity etc. of the clipped layer as appropriate, like any other layer. There will be other methods (much more in Photo) but try this one to see if it's usable. 2020-11-06_08-54-24.mp4 StuartRc
oxyalis
Hello @GarryP, Thanks a lot for the tip. It's kinda working, but not as good or easy as Photoshop. Hope it'll be improved in the future.
GarryP
You’re welcome. You can create a feature request for this in the appropriate forum section if it’s important to you (check to see if anyone else has already made one first though). StuartRc
@GarryP idea is a good approach but you could take it stage further by creating a style from the bitmap/fill that has been created. This way any vector shape can be quickly filled with the pattern and you can recolour using adjustment layers. Should also just consider using a seamless pattern overlay (rasterize and paint as required) Quote Affinity Version 1 (10.6) Affinity Version 2.5.5 All (Designer | Photo | Publisher) Beta; 2.5 5.2636 OS:Windows 10 Pro 22H2 OS Build 19045.4412+ Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19056.1000.0 Rig:AMD FX 8350 and AMD Radeon (R9 380 Series) Settings Version 21.04.01 Radeon Settings Version 2020 20.1.03) + Wacom Intuous 4M with driver 6.3.41-
