This is really embarrassing!  Yesterday I was playing around and I created the shape below, very easily.  About as easy as making a cog using the shape tool.  And for the life of me I can't remember how I made it! 😱  The only thing I have saved is the attached which is a curve.  I believe I remember specifying the number of arms and the adjusting the size of the bulbs and valleys.  Today I can't find (or remember) how I did it.  I know I did not draw each bulb and valley separately.  Has anyone run into a way to easily make this?  What am I missing, not counting my memory.  I can remember thinking, wow this is really handy and a cool shape.  Help!

For your example Gear maker; with the Star tool selected, click the Cog icon in the Context Bar.
In the pop-up choose your desired Star shape.
Every time you use the Star tool it will now default to this new starting shape. If you want a different default starting shape simply choose another from the pop-up.

anon2 and markw, that's it!  Thank you.  I had been thinking it was the star shape, but wasn't able to get the right combination this morning to get the bulbous ends and troughs.  I appreciate it!
