Brush set will not load in

Recommended Posts

I have an ABR format brush set that if I had to take a guess probably has around 2500 brushes in it or so?  When I try to load it up into affinity, it gives me the loading circle but never resolves into the brushes actually loading into the program.  I can load a set of 400-500 brushes and it'll take a few seconds, but this larger set refuses to load, and I eventually have to just close the program.    Is there a way to fix this?

Hi Estoc,

If possible could you provide the file in question so I can try importing it? Please could you also tell me which app you are using (and which version) and which operating system you are using?

Thanks

The Abr file crashes my Affinity Photo on Mac.

I opened the abr file in Adobe Photoshop CC and it opens in seconds. In Adobe Photoshop CC I can group the brushes so I made eight groups.

  • Lixin Brushes Group 1 (94 brushes) imports successfully
  • Lixin Brushes Group 2 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
    • Lixin Brushes Group 2.1 (59 brushes) imports successfully
    • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
      • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.1 (31 brushes) imports successfully
      • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.2 (33 brushes) imports successfully
      • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
        • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3.1 (20 brushes) imports successfully
        • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3.2 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
          • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3.2.1 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
            • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3.2.1.1 (4 brushes) imports successfully
            • Exported the remaining 3 brushes as individual brushes and all imported successfully 🤔
          • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3.2.2 (7 brushes) imports successfully
        • Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3.3 (12 brushes) imports successfully
    • Lixin Brushes Group 2.3 (71 brushes) imports successfully
  • Lixin Brushes Group 3 (180 Brushes) imports successfully
  • Lixin Brushes Group 4 (139 brushes) imports successfully
  • Lixin Brushes Group 5 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
    •  Lixin Brushes Group 5.1 (40 brushes) imports successfully
    • Lixin Brushes Group 5.2 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
      • Lixin Brushes Group 5.2.1 (14 brushes) imports successfully
      • Lixin Brushes Group 5.2.2 (8 brushes) imports successfully
      • Lixin Brushes Group 5.2.3 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
      • image.png.25cedbc078d66e8dcc201ad517794466.png
      • In the group shown in the image above, Sampled Brush 2 6 crashes Affinity Photo
    • Lixin Brushes Group 5.3 (206 brushes) imports successfully
  • Lixin Brushes Group 6 (Failed to load brushes unexpected format)
  • Lixin Brushes Group 7 (Crashes Affinity Photo)
  • Lixin Brushes Group 8 (Crashes Affinity Photo)

Made some sub groups to see if I can narrow down the offending brushes.

So, had a bit of time before I leave for work and under the Lixin Brushes Group 2.2.3.2.1 (Crashes Affinity Photo) group I exported the top 4 brushes and they imported correctly, I then exported the last three brushes individually and they all imported correctly, so in that group none of the brushes actually crash Affinity Photo but as a group import they do… Go figure!!!
