Cant add fill layer

Usually this always works, but NOT in this specific project. I want to add a black fill layer, then drag it onto the ”momo” figure, invert it, and paint a darker exposure over the figure. But its IMPOSSIBLE, i can add a fill layer, but its completely blank, NO color. 

The only way it works is to highlight the top layer, change the colorwheel to black ( wich turns that layer black) then add a fill layer that is black, then drag the fill layer to where i want it. BUT, then the top layer is impossible to reverse from black to color!!!!

 

What is happening here?????

Once you've added the new Fill layer in the layer stack, have you then selected a colour (black) on the Colour Studio to aply to it? If it isn't working, it may be worth uploading a copy of your document.
