Ericcc Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 (edited) When importing this PDF https://www.zu-blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/MAISONS-JAUNES-1-6-11-16-21-calendrier-de-lavent2017-ZU-copyright.pdf the numbers have an alignement issue. For instance when importing just the first page in Affinity 1.8.5.703 it looks like while it should look like MAISONS-JAUNES-1-6-11-16-21-calendrier-de-lavent2017-ZU-copyright.pdf Edited October 30, 2020 by Ericcc Affinity version Quote
Joachim_L Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Opening the PDF the Affinity applications interpret the PDF, means making the PDF editable. If there are fonts in the PDF which are not installed on your computer, the Affinities replaces them. So you have to convert the fonts to curves before opening them (if possible) or you have to edit the text. Attached a PDF with fonts converted to curves. Ericcc Posted October 30, 2020 Author Posted October 30, 2020 The "correct" screenshot was generated on the same machine (I just opened the PDF in Chrome) It is true that when opening, Affinity complains about three missing fonts (NaiveLineSansRegular, OpenSans-Light & Quicksand)-Regular, but according to Acrobat Reader they are embedded in the PDF (as a subset, and indeed when extracting the fonts from the, only very few characters are available) Quote
Joachim_L Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Affinity is not able to use embedded fonts and so is Illustrator CS6 (can't speak about later versions). But I have to admit, that Illustrator is better at font replacement. So the question is here: What do you want to do with the PDF? Editing it, just displaying it and put some other stuff on it? Case 1: You have to install the missing fonts or replace them by yourself. Case 2: Have a look at current beta of APublisher. Here you can place the PDF uninterpreted. Opening a PDF means Editing in the Affinityverse. Same for Placing until now in AD and AP. Ericcc Posted October 30, 2020 Author Posted October 30, 2020 My purpose was just save ink and paper when printing, ie. mask some tidbits, move stuff around to make room for a copy-paste from another PDF so more could be printed on the same sheet of paper. It is a PDF I stumbled on a website (not mine) for a DIY advent calendar, and when having a look at editing I discovered Affinity Photo supported editing PDFs, before stumbling on the glitch, and thought it could be worth reporting. So it is not mission critical or anything, but it was a very cool surprise to discover that Affinity Photo can edit PDF at all. The more I use Affinity Photo, the more I like it! Joachim_L 1 Quote
