Hello,

I can't get my .tif files to work in Affinity.

I have hundreds of .tif files that are multilayer and none of the affinity software can open them correctly.

Is there some feature that has to be turned on or off to get them to work?

They open fine in Photoshop just not any of the Affinity software.

Thanks in advance

Fred

The message speaks for itself - the TIFF file contains proprietary (non-standard) Photoshop data that only Photoshop can process.

Hello,

Thanks for fast reply.

I thought Affinity handled Photoshop files which is why I asked.

Thanks for your help and time.

The message does not speak for itself - it is far from clear and consise.

  • "The user interface is supposed to work for me - I am not supposed to work for the user interface."
  • Computer-, operating system- and software agnostic; I am a result oriented professional. Look for a fanboy somewhere else.
  • “When a wise man points at the moon the imbecile examines the finger.” ― Confucius
  • Not an Affinity user og forum user anymore. The software continued to disappoint and not deliver.

Photoshop files (*.PSD) yes, but specific part of *.TIFF files, which Adobe uses to store additional information, probably no.

It would be best to save the data in a standard format - if you want to save information about the layers and the effects applied to them with the image data, then use either PSD or PDF.

Using a TIFF file as a "work files" is not a really good way, and can lead to these problems - some applications may not be able to process these non-standard pieces of data.

Hey Guys & Gals,

Thanks for the fast reply and help.
My problem is the .tif files are purchased alphabets.

SO I do not know enough about PS to change file types.
Must be a reason company made them tif files unlike just .psd files or am I wrong?

Thanks in advance

Fred

Open TIFF files and SaveAs/Export PSD/PDF files. Try, if they PSD/PDF files open in Affinity have every needed information/multilayer.

Maybe so that the purchased images cannot be modified so easily? Why do you actually need to process these images as a multilayer?

Hello,

I have about 150 or so files all tif.

Each .tif file is a complete alphabet and special symbols.
So each has about 50 layers in each file which is one layer per letter, number and special characters.
Also each file is a special font design.

I cant upload due to copywrite plus the size of each file is between 500mb up to about 1.5gb per file.

I did not want to have to use Photoshop for them.

I guess I have no choice but use Photoshop.
Thanks

Fred

Open with what?

With Photoshop it probably works but do you have a licence?

Hello,

Sorry for late reply.

Yes I have license.

Doing the save as .psd massively increases the size of each .tif file  but at least now I can open them in affinity.

Thanks for your help.

Fred
