Hi,

I was able to create repeat patterns in Designer without any issue. On opening Designer the repeat behaved 'oddly'

I create the repeat pattern (pattern.jpg) in a 1000 x 1000px square. I save as a png (to get a transparent background) and then in a new document using the Fill Tool with the type Bitmap I use the previously created pattern. Each time instead of repeating it stretches the original 1000x1000 square.

This happens every time and also when I use Affinity Photo with the Affine filter.

I also tried Rasterize and Trim on the layer and selecting the 1000x1000 square and exporting only the selection after trimming

I reset Affinity Designer and created from new but got the same results

With the fill tool I also have maintain fill aspect ration checked

thank you for any help

The options are misnamed, to my way of thinking. ‘Repeat’ only repeats the edge pixels; the option you want is ‘Wrap’, which actually repeats the whole pattern although it sounds to me as though it should stretch the edges as ‘Repeat’ currently does.

Notwithstanding the above, why are you using a PNG instead of duplicating your vector pattern? :/

@Alfred

Thank you for the reply.  Which options do you mean? The only one with Wrap that I can think of is the Affine filter (which I set to wrap).

I use PNG so I can then use the Bitmap fill with the repeating pattern that I save. If I duplicate the pattern then it takes longer and the bitmap (saved PNG) is available to all other documents both Designer and Photo.

I am new to this so my knowledge is based on some YouTube videos: Watch from 28.20mins

. The process was working fine but then went wrong

thanks again for the reply

Ok I have got it now sorry for the question.

The Bitmap Fill has to go into a shape like a rectangle. I was placing the fill directly onto the artboard.

thanks for the help
