viktor.pluhacek
Hello guys, I am an university student having my final year. During this final year students have to write their work. After writing my bachelor work using Microsoft Word I have decided to purchase Affinity Publisher. And now I am lost right on the begining. A need to create TOC (table of content) like that one on the attached file - please forgive my czech language, just needed this picture for ilustration. The main issue is that I am not able to create TOC sorted by number and "subnumber". 1 Main topic 2 Research 2.1 History 2.1.1 Europe 2.1.2 Asia 2.1.1. China 2.1.2. Thailand etc........ Would you please give me some advice how to make those number, I found that very uncluttered and good looking, especially with this type of large volume works. Please, need help desperately! Thank you very much. Viktor!
Staff Callum Posted October 19, 2020 Staff Share Posted October 19, 2020 Hi Viktor, Welcome to the forums I recommend changing your display name to avoid spam, The following file shows an example of this kind of numbered list if you edit the text styles Numbered 1 and Numbered 2 you can see how this list has been setup if you get your TOC to use similar text styles you should be able to get it setup how you want. Thanks C Number list Example.afpub Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
viktor.pluhacek
Hello Callum, thank you very much for your respond. I tried and tried and tried and nothing. Starting to be little bit desperate I tried to make Heading 1 but I am lost with following Headings. In the Bullets and Numbering you got automatically: Level 2 - and you cannot change it. I on the other hand got there [No change]. And becouse of that I got Heading 2 on the same level as the Heading 1 is Please help! Tahnk you! h_d
Don't despair @viktor.pluhacek! It can be done! Just for interest @Callum I've worked out how to add additional styles as the OP requested. I've attached a document which takes you down to Numbered 4, and I've described the process of creating Numbered 5: So to create a new level, in this case Level 5: Click the hamburger button for the previous level and choose "Create Style Based on..." Create a New Style Based on Numbered 4. Call it Numbered 5. (Actually this should happen automatically which is quite smart...) Under Bullets and Numbering, set it to Level 5. Go into the Text area. Delete the existing text. Click the pull-down and choose Level 1, then type a full stop: Now click the pull-down and choose Level 2, then type a full stop: Continue until you reach level 5, then insert a Tab character from the pull-down: You will then want to switch to the Spacing section and increase the first line indent: Which gives you Level 5: What you can't do (which annoyed me at first) is duplicate the original style, or you have to start from scratch with the numbering text. Similarly, I don't see how you can edit the Bullets and Numbering text fields after you saved the style, which I think you should be able to. Cheers, H Index levels.afpub Massively edited... And I can't get rid of this: Quote Affinity Photo 2.0.3, Affinity Designer 2.0.3, Affinity Publisher 2.0.3, Mac OSX 13, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel.
