Did you do this from a fresh boot and is it always missing? I'm just wondering if I'm missing any steps. Thanks

SPaceBar, I just restarted my computer.  Then only opened the beta Designer.  The same issue, Create is blank.  I use separated mode so I tried non-separated mode, same problem.  So I opened Opera, my chosen internet browser, and noticed that the Create became visible.  So I clicked on AD and the Create went blank again.

When another application, I tried a few, has focus the create is visible.  But when AD has focus the create is blank.  So I tried the dark interface and the Create button works correctly

Back to the light interface and it's blank again when AD has focus.  If I open Preferences then the Create is visible.  If I click in the gray area so no preset is selected then a grayed out Create is displayed.  But as soon as I click on any preset then Create is gone.

I hope that helps to find this issue.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks @Gear maker I couldn't get a screenshot of this on my Sierra iMac as every time I click the icon for Grab the button text appears and when I click back to Affinity Designer it disappears again. 👍

Try using shift+cmd+3 for a full screen screenshot that will be dumped on your desktop.

The Command+Shift+3 shortcut predates MacOS X - it has been around apparently since System 2.0 in the mid-1980s: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/4140/where-does-command-shift-3-or-command-shift-4-for-taking-screen-captures-origi

There are a few other related shortcuts that can be used to grab individual windows or portions of the screen, etc: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201361

Sadly my Sierra iMac it doesn't have the screenshot functionality built in

I've been using Grab on my old machines for many years now

Aren't the (missing built-in) "screenshot functionality" and "Grab" simply the same? (... while both don't visually open an app in the mac's menu bar?)

Grab does add one option to the built-in shortcuts prior to Mojave: the option to take a timed screenshot (screenshot after a delay).

In Mojave the Command+Option+5 option was added which provides this feature as well as video recording (which in earlier versions of macOS can be done using QuickTime Player - and yes it seems strange to use "player" to capture video) over the offerings in prior versions.
