I have Affinity Publisher and am looking at Affinity Photo to replace Adobe Photoshop Elements.  One of the main things I do with PE is to remove background on an image.  With PE I create a mask then on the mask I use a Tool called Magic Wand and highlight say an area of the same colour I don't want and to be replaced with transparent area (I export/save as PNG).  Then fill with the Fill Tool using black colour that removes the area and leaves transparent.  White restores the background area.  It also works with a brush too.  I have started to work my way through whatever tutorials I can find including on You Tube.  But these are either very basci introduction or on say Typography.  I only have 10 days to make up my miond to purchase.  I am already having to learn Publisher to replace my use of Page Plus which I have used to produce books for publication.  But I am not expert or that experienced user.  So any guidance on how to do this in Affinity Photo welcome.  Maybe there is a video on this technique.

Found masking and followed video tutorial.  All looks great.  Is there a tool similiar to Magic Tool in Photoshop.  So if you have an area on the layer that is the same colour you can select that area.  Then go to the mask and then use a fill of 'black colour' to remove?  Must admit Affinity Photo looks briliant compared to Photoshop Elements.  Lots to master.  So is there an area select tool rather than using a brush to highight and area.

The Flood Selection Tool is probably closest.
