I am interested in purchasing Affinity Publisher to design my magazine, which as been distributed in print for 30 years. I am considering Affinity Publisher and InDesign.

My question is: Can I design the magazine files in CMYK and export them as CMYK pdf files? This is crucial for me because I must provide the pdf files of my magazine to my printer in CMYK format.

I would rather purchase Affinity Publisher than InDesign, but I need to answer this question first. Thank you so much for your help!

Hi and welcome to the forums @RafaMiami,

In a word yes. I would suggest you try the trial of Publisher available at the bottom of the this page  https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/publisher/ . You just have to remember to design using a CMYK document and output/export a CMYK PDF.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Here’s a direct link to the trial download in the Affinity Store:

Please note that the ten-day trial clock runs continuously from the moment you first launch the app, and it cannot be reset.

You can export your InDesign files as IDML and open them. Placing PDF adverts is still a work in progress, there is passthrough feature in newest beta which is not fully satisfactory.
