What do you mean by a “layer count”?
Specifically, which layers (or types of layers) do you want to count and which layers (or types of layers) do you want to not count?
Do nested layers matter? What about mask layers? What about layers in symbols? What about adjustment layers?
For example, say I have an image layer which as an adjustment layer applied to it which itself has a mask layer applied to that, and that image layer is nested inside a shape, and that shape is inside a symbol, how many layers would you expect to be counted?
And what would you do with the information if you had it?
(I don’t think there’s a way to do what you want – and I could be wrong about that – I’m just curious as to what you would do with the information.)

For an Object count use Select > Select all

The total number of objects selected will be shown in the Hint line (bottom left of screen)

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

I´m a layer hog, an image with a few hundred layers is nothing and I was just curious if there is a way to count layers.

True, but that shows only the objects on the top tier, objects in a group are counted as one regardless of how many objects are in it. You would have to open the group and select all the objects, have them counted and then open the next group and count those.

At the moment I am working on an image and lost count somewhere between layer 450 and 600.

Is that a composite image?

(In APhoto?)

OK, groups are counted as one object

Layer layers will count all the individual objects in the Layer layer

Not sure why they make that distinction
