wbdoll
Hi, In Designer I place an image, convert to curves, draw a shape (rectangle) partially over the image, then do a geometry subtract. The operation works, except the image gets all distorted. I also noticed other Boolean operations have the same effect (result in distorted original image). Am I missing a step or doing something wrong? I know I can do this with masks, but I prefer to use the Boolean as it seems like it would be less steps (although would be even better if I didn't have to convert the image to curves first). Thanks, -Bill
ESPR
A boolean operation should not work on images. Converting an image to curves does not turn it into a vector. A trace is required for that, which AD does not have. Your technique turns an image into a vectorcontainer with a Bitmap Fill, which you can move around with the Fill Tool. h_d

You're not vectorising the image. 19 minutes ago, wbdoll said: I know I can do this with masks Best way. wbdoll
Ok, I thought I had read somewhere that the way to boolean on an image was to turn it into curves. But I searched and cannot find it so maybe I was dreaming. Thank you for the quick replies.

Yes, you can do that, but currently there is a bug with the transformation matrix of the bitmap fill of the resulting shape, hence the incorrect fill of your result. To work around that: before performing the Boolean operation, select only the lower object (the Curve object that originally was an Image object) and do Copy (cmd+c) do the Boolean operation with the resulting object selected, do Paste Style (shift+cmd+v) to give the correct fill to it lacerto
wbdoll
anon2 thank you for this great workaround! Exactly what I was looking for. lepr
