PDF printing thumbnails and content

Recommended Posts

I exported a 10 page Affinity Pub document as a pdf. When I view the document it displays the pages that i

designed and on the left side of the document are the thumbnail pages that you see when you create the

documents. I expect a pdf to show just the data pages that I create but that is not what I get.

If I export as jpgs I will get 10 jpg images

So what am I doing wrong?

Sorry, I'm not too clear on what it is you get with the PDF that you don't want. Your screen shot just seems to show a normal view of a PDF with the thumbnail/page view on the left.

From your screenshot it looks like you are viewing the PDF using Apple's Preview app, & you have it set to show thumbnails of each page in the sidebar of that app's window.

If you click on the top left icon that looks like a rectangle with some lines in it, you should see a menu of options, among them to hide the sidebar or to show something other than page thumbnails.

Can I check, @Etdronehome, do you want to export 10 individual pdf files, one for each page, as opposed to a multiple-page pdf?

If so, I think you would need to select page 1, export, choose "Current page" next to "Area" in the export dialog, name the export something like "page1.pdf"; export it, then select page 2 and repeat for the remaining individual pages.

In the screenshot in the first post, you can see in the header that the document is titled "Irrigation Issue," & that it is displaying page 1 of 10:

So I am reasonably sure the thumbnails are just the normal ones shown in the sidebar of Preview.app for a multi-page pdf, as they would be for any other multi-page pdf file if that app's sidebar is set to show page thumbnails.

IOW, this has nothing to do with how Affinity is exporting the document to PDF format.

Yes, absolutely. My question to the OP is whether they want a multi-page pdf, or 10 individual files, one for each page. I may of course be misunderstanding the original question.

Thanks all for the help. R C-R had the answer. When I exported I selected the option to preview the exported document and Apple Preview box had the show thumbnails box checked. Clicking on the pdf in Finder also showed the thumbnails hence my call for help.

I mentioned the jpg export merely to show that using that option a thumbnail is not shown on each page.

Thanks again

Rich
