How do I select part of an image and export just that part as a jpg? I have searched but cannot find a simple answer! Thank you.

I've tried the rectangular selection tool and the crop tool, then File, Export and choose "Selection with background" but it still exports the whole image.

Welcome to the forums @Dawei
If you can tell us which Affinity application(s) you have access to then we can give you some choices (not all of the applications have the same tools/functionality).

Thanks for the extra information.
When you say you want to export ‘part’ of an image, do you mean that you want to export a layer – or bunch of layers – or do you want to export an area of the image?
In other words, do you want to export a rectangular area exactly as it is or do you want some kind of background to be removed when exporting?
By way of example, in my attached image, given A, do you want B or C?

I want to export like B please

So I have a file finished in Photo, but I now want to export just a selected area of it as a jpg

One of the easiest ways to do that is to use the Export Persona.
* Select the Export Persona from the Toolbar;
* Select the Slice Tool (if it’s not already selected);
* Draw the area you want to export (you can be more precise using the Transform Panel once you have drawn the Slice);
* Go to the Slices Panel;
* Select the Slice you want to export;
* Change the options as necessary in the Export Options Panel;
* Press the Export Slice button.
My attached video quickly shows the steps (in Designer, but the same thing applies to Photo).
