Amir Anderson
Dear Serif-Team, 1. thanks for your fantastic software solutions! Just Photo is missing, then I have the whole suite... HOWEVER: Publisher does not come with an adequate option to change dictionary-languages and settings within the software?! Are you serious? YOU NEED TO FIX THIS! And no, I don't want to search and open a folder and download a zip, and so on and so on, NO! This program is named PUBLISHER! So please include at least an option to choose and switch between standard EN, DE, ES, and FR within the program on default. Anything else is just ridiculous. All four of those languages are already included. It sounds like you just need help with configuring. A few more details about your setup and what you are trying to accomplish would be helpful to anyone wishing to advise you, if that is what you seek. Amir Anderson
hey! this is the problem: Yes, and I know, the Austrian German version is not included and I need to install it. (by the way, could you tell me how?) But thats not the point. The point is, I cannot change the spelling language e.g. to German-DE because of this error message. Why? What if I have a text with more than 1 language (e.g. German and English, what is very likley), I cannot tell the software to look for both or e.g. to use EN on page 1-3 and DE on 4-5? In my opinion, only solely the fact that I have to enquiry this here, should show that the present solution is not convenient....

You can use the Character studio panel, or Text Styles, to specify the language for any of your text, including entire text frames or individual words. Your problem may simply be that you don't have the dictionaries installed. Amir Anderson
Ok, I see, thanks for the help! However, I would be interested to know if you as serif are satisfied with this solution? Don't you think that this is rather a confusion or at least not very intuitive UX? Further, regarding this procedure: You can add additional dictionaries and hyphenation dictionaries by going to Edit > Preferences > Tools. The default location is C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Common\1.0\Dictionaries\ but you can change this location by clicking Browse... This location is were additional dictionaries needs to copied to. You can click Open... to open the location to copy the files. You will need to create a subfolder with a name in the format of xx_XX ( substituting xx_XX for the locale id ). You will need to copy your xx_XX.dic, xx_XX.aff and hyph_xx_XX.dic files to the subfolder. Now restart Affinity Publisher for the dictionaries to appear within the app. Do you believe that this should be the today's standard how to install an dict? You created such a nice program, but in this case it seems you just lost your interest in beeing user friendly. Consider me as your DAU (guess you do already ) I want to be free to install a dict from the menu and I would like that it is beeing downloaded directly from your servers and autmatically installed. Would this really be too much of a ask? Thanks! BR,

I suggested that Serif create at least a specific thread with appropriate dictionaries so that less experienced users would not have to search for them somewhere on the Internet. Unfortunately, Serif did not even respond. It is possible Serif will respond, but unlikely in this forum. What you say makes sense to me as a user, but I can also see that gathering all the dictionaries that someone might want, and keeping them up-to-date, could be a large job and they may want to devote their resources to other tasks.
