Affinity Photo and Designer both hang when opening a file. I can run the program without issue but as soon as I try to open ANY file, it hangs & becomes unresponsive. I have to force close the app via task manager.

I've tried resetting everything by holding CTRL on startup, and also reinstalled Photo.

Entry in event viewer just shows the hang:

The program Photo.exe version 1.8.5.703 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

System is Ryzen 3700X, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVME, Nvidia RTX2070

Windows 10 2004 (Build 19041.508)

It may have coincided with updating to the latest versions (1.8.5)

Update: Same issue with the 1.9.0.76 beta even with OpenCL acceleration enabled, so possibly something external like video driver?

This doesn't happen on my laptop.

I've since removed all trace of Affinity on my desktop and reinstalled. Still the same result.

Reinstalled an older version - still hangs. I'm thinking it might be the current nvidia driver.

In Edit > Preferences > Performance

Switch Renderer to Warp

If testing with the beta also switch OpenCL off

The above will bypass your Video card
