Basic letterpress & embossing layer styles

Hey fellow Affinity friends!

Have some new styles – fresh of the press. :)

Played around with styles today and came up with

the idea of the letterpress effects.

A bit desdaturated, but these are just the presets. Obviously you can try different

blend modes, colors and backgrounds. This is how the four different styles look

like if you use them directly on text or vector layers.

Use on path-based layers recommended, the effect doesn't show off well on pixel layers …

And this is what they may look like after fiddling around with perspective and

some further effects applied.

Anyways, the afstyles are packed as a zip – have fun messing around! :D

Exactly! It adds a lot of the realness, though you probably could push it even further with better adjusted light direction in the style itself

to match the lighting later in the post-process … but I'm thinking of it like a rough mockup-like situation, where you might want to present

your client a nice embossing of their future logo on their business card, letterhead or something like that. ;)

I'm glad you like it. :)

Hey justwilliam, you're welcome!

@justwilliam,

Take a look at this page. I've compiled some resources there.

Wow … this is convenient, veeery nice MEB! And thanks for having me listed!

MEB, maybe you can answer this question: I wonder if there’s a way to quickly remove layer styles in AP.

I only managed to do this by either unchecking all of them manually or creating a new layer style without any

attributes selected in the first place and click on that one every time I want the shapes to be plain original.

A »Revert defaults« button like the one in AD would be nice. :)

Or am I missing something here?

Maybe I can chime in here quickly … the Revert Defaults button is available in Affinity Photo as well … simply choose View > Customise Toolbar … and drag the buttons to the toolbar … :)

Can anybody help as to how I can change the colors of the Letterpress and Emboss style

Hey Earth Design, sorry for the late response. :7_sweat_smile:

There are two ways for changing the colour:

  1. With the Effects Palette active, click on the check box labelled »Colour Overlay«, change the colour.
  2. With the Layers Palette active, click on the little fx-icon and navigate to the check box labelled »Colour Overlay«, change the colour.

Some additional tips:
Light colours work better than dark colours hence the inner Inner Shadow that otherwise gets nearly unnoticeable.
You can also give the colour a bit noise if that's something you want.

Hope this little clip helps. :10_wink:

Cheers
