polar Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 (edited) Hi, I'm new here. My question is about the Affinity Designer. How I can quickly find and replace colors? I have a complex vector file. This 100% vector file is bigger than 400 MB and very complex with many objects. I wold like to replace (change) the colors. For example : The all 2740 blue objects should be red. (They are located on several layers.) The all green objects should be blue. (They are located on several layers.) The all orange objects should be grey... Is it possible? How? Thanks in advance. Edited September 28, 2020 by polar Quote
walt.farrell Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. That is not currently possible unless you have used global colors. In that case, if you edit the global color and change it all the objects with that color will change. However, in 1.9 (currently available in beta) it will be possible, using the menu Select > Select Same > Fill Color. With that function, you can select one of the objects, and from it select all the other objects with the same color, and change them all. polar, Fun Art Sam and Figmatt 2 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. polar Posted September 28, 2020 Author Posted September 28, 2020 (edited) @walt.farrell Thank you for your answer. I have two quick questions. • What does it mean "global color"? • "Select > Select Same > Fill Color" There is a way select outline color too? (Some objects filled and some objects only have line width with same color.) Edited September 28, 2020 by polar Quote

Again, only in the 1.9 beta version. polar 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. polar Posted September 28, 2020 Author Posted September 28, 2020 @walt.farrell Thank you very much! "Select > Select Same > Fill Color" - Working properly. "Select > Select Same > Stroke Color" - Working properly. ""Select > Select Same > Fill and Stroke Color" - It doesn't work well. Thanks, again! Quote

But presumably @polar is going to Select a bunch of objects, then change either their stroke or fill color. Maybe they're doing that incorrectly, somehow. Or maybe the wrong objects are being chosen. Screenshots or a video would help (and possibly a sample document). polar Posted September 29, 2020 Author Posted September 29, 2020 This is a very complex document. A little bigger than 400 MB and 100% vector. This file contains only 3 colors. Each color alone contains thousands of objects. Lots of objects use the same color to fill and lots of objects just only outline. I found there is a problem when a lot of objects are selected at once and the outline meets the criteria, but the inside was originally transparent. Quote

Are you saying that with an object selected that has only a stroke & no fill, if you then use the 'Select Same Fill and Stroke Color' feature it selects objects that do have a fill color? Staff MEB Posted September 29, 2020 Staff Posted September 29, 2020 Hi @polar, Does your filled objects have a black outline? If that's the case we are already aware of this issue. In any case, do you mind sharing the file for us to check please? What objects are you trying select in it and what commands are you using? Here's an upload link you can use in case you wish to keep the file private. Thank you. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

I thought I just posted a topic in the AD Mac beta bugs forum related to that but it seems to have disappeared. It would be nice if there was some place we could see a list of known issues in the current betas, or if that can't be done for some reason that the staff could post topics in the beta forums about known bugs that no user has as yet reported. That could spare beta testers the sometimes substantial time wasted checking to see if something really is a bug & then creating a topic about it when the staff already knows that it is. As it is, this can be frustrating enough to promote a "why bother?" attitude that may result in considerably less user beta testing. "Does your filled objects have a black outline?" - No. Unfortunately I can't upload and show a screenshot because I signed NDA. Currently I have a deadline. As soon I have a free time, I can try reproduce the issue with a simplified vector file. Edited October 1, 2020 by polar Quote
