Place excel file not an option

Hi

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  I want to place an excel table into a document.  I got to file / place, and I can select various option to look for in terms of what to place, jpg, png etc.  But I can see an option for excel.  Am I looking in the wrong place, where am I going wrong?

Publisher is the only one of the three Affinity applications that can place .xlsx files. They have to be .xlsx files .xls won't work.

sorry, I meant I can't see an option to place an excel file (.xlsx).  I can how to place other files, just not excel.

Clearly losing the capacity to write / talk.  I can see how to place other files, but it doesn't offer an .xlsx extension.  I've got version 1.8.5.703.

Are you in fact trying this in Publisher? It is the only one of the three applications with the ability to place .xlsx files.

Have you tried the "All Documents" setting in the dialog?

Also, what OS do you use?

I'm using windows 10.  by the dialog box, do you mean the search dialogue that comes up when you want to place?  I don't have the option to pick all documents, I get a list of different file types I can chose.

Yes, and here's what I get in the bottom right corner of that File Explorer "Open" dialog:

*smacks forehead*  I didn't pick all documents because it gave the extension *.afpub.   I was looking for the *.xlsx option.  I'm going to go hide now.

Okay, but don't hide for too long. Thanks to Walt's reply I learned something about  Windows options and I may be able to help with others as a result of your asking this question.

Thanks.  You may badly regret this...

On Windows you can also type a filter into the filename box. For example, you could type *. xlsx and then press Enter.

That will restrict the dialog to showing files with the xlsx extension, and folders.
